any suggestions for a title?

I finished my painting and entered it in the ALNC fall show.  I have been working on this painting for quite a while, the palette and the composition were changed a few times, this is the final piece. (I am very happy with how it came out) My painting will be at the Hutchins Gallery at C.W. Post Campus of LI from Nov. 3 – Nov 29th.

Pumpkin & apple picking have become part of a fall ritual.  I went this year with family & we picked our own pumpkins & apples…this year the apple crop was especially good!  I took some great pictures & have plenty of reference shots for future painting & drawing projects.

Vivian H was in Vermont (painting) this week …she sent me a few pictures.   She also said “It  was cold & she was wearing her warmest clothes… & boots!”  Visit her on facebook for more info.

I will be going upstate NY this weekend to do some pumpkin & apple picking.  I hear its not as cold as in Vermont, but I will be bringing my sweater & boots anyway…along with my camera & sketchbook!

I spent some time in upstate NY this week(the Catskill Mountains)…literally watching the leaves change colors & fall… Octoberfest in the mountains was a lot of

fun…took lots of photos and finished a pastel study of a bear! (I’ve been working on that pastel for quite awhile!) I also finished three drawings…including one for this

weeks Illustration Friday.

I have been working on a paining that I will be entering in the ALNC Fall Membership show…more details on their website.

I finished 2 drawings this week (another pastel painting is almost done). One of my drawings was done with graphite & color pencils…the drawing below, when finished (rock formation) I intend to use for the enter page of my new website, (which seems to be an ongoing project).  I will also be using it as a masthead for this blog…

Art League of Nassau County had its first meeting on Friday…Joe Chierchio gave a lecture on adding a bit of narrative to paintings & drawings.  It was very informative. Coffee & cookies was served afterwards & everyone exchanged summer
vacation stories.There was a bit of painting & some reading this week, but I spentmost of my time learning Facebook…

The end of summer getaway…at Montauk, LI, turned out to be a great three days.   Besides meeting people at a social event, I did a bit of picture taking and  even some sketching.  It turns out the part of the beach we were at was half the size of what it was last year…it was quite a shock to everyone.  When Tropical Storm Daniel hit, it washed more than half of it away!  A real eye opener regarding beach erosion.

Now that I am home I have been spending time updating my SCBWI profile page. Take a look and let me know what you think!

black bear & 2 cubs

I put my painting aside for a while. I will go back to it in a week or so & look at it with fresh eyes and finish the details.  I have been in the Catskills (NY)…camera in hand  & got a great photo of a black bear & her cubs. I don’t think I will ever forget seeing them.  I was also enjoying time with family & we spent one gorgeous afternoon at Roxbury’s NY “Turn of the Century Days” there were old fashioned children’s games, hands-on crafts, and two full days of 19th century vintage baseball.  There were also artists on the premises enjoying The 6th annual WHET PAINT exhibit and sale. We ended the day with some old fashioned home made ice cream before heading back home.

Been alternating between painting & taking photographs. I use a lot of my photos for reference. Sometimes I have a particular subject in mind…and sometimes I just click away! This weekend I enjoyed doing both.
